About the Event

 

This 3.5-hour class has been designed for Certified Medical Interpreters (CMI) who have had experience working in the field of medical interpreting for a minimum of 1 year. Interpreters will analyze managing the triadic relationship verses customer service case scenarios so that they can tell the difference between interpreter Managing the triadic relationship, Setting the stage, and Interpreting.

Interpreter field guidelines will be reinforced and used as a guide when using the managing roll under various situations. Students will also demonstrate their understanding of Managing the triadic relationship by roll playing and open discussions and at the same time building their confidence. Students will also discuss how culture plays a role in when working with patient’s. Through various hands-on cooperative learning techniques, participants will explore several approaches to practicing the managing the triadic relationship. Participants will develop communicative strategies to manage ethical situations when using there managing roll.

They will also further develop essential skill sets to establish and maintain their professional role under various challenging medical circumstances. There will be an emphasis placed on understanding medical interpreting standards and ethics, and how they correlate with the managing the triadic relationship as well as an in-depth understanding of varying communication styles for confidence-building and for delivering effective interaction during clinical encounters and maintaining medical interpreter field.

Objectives

  • The participant will understand how to use the role of the interpreter to take control of the substance of the messages.
  • The participant will be able to effectively recognize, analyze and function in their managing the triadic relationship roll.
  • The participant will understand how to differentiate, evaluate and assist the interpreter by constructively managing interactions with staff and patients.
